The Odisha government on Wednesday allowed medical colleges in the state to restart classes. Other institutions of teaching like veterinary, nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy colleges have also been allowed with certain conditions.

“Government after careful consideration have been pleased to reopen all medical colleges and other institution of teaching e.g. nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, public health and other paramedical/allied medical science course in the State during this declining phase of the Covid-19,” said the State Health Department in a letter to the Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET).

Here is the latest guidelines by the Odisha government:

  1. While the theory classes will continue online, the authorities are allowed to conduct practical/clinical classes and examinations in groups at 50 per cent capacity.
  2. The students must submit written permission from their parents or guardians to attend such sessions.
  3. The institutions shall make provision for screening of the students for Covid-19 symptoms.
  4. The students must adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviours - use masks, wash hands and avoid crowded places.
  5. Fully vaccinated and unvaccinated/partially vaccinated students should be segregated, the guidelines said, adding that the institutions should start vaccination drives for students and college staff in coordination with the local health authorities.
  6. The administrative office will remain open on all working days as per the government guidelines.
