National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Saturday said Congress’ tweet taunting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “friendship” with former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been convicted in a corruption case along with his daughter, was “disappointing”.
“There are a lot of things I will be critical of PM Modi for but attempting to repair India’s relations with Pakistan is certainly not one of them. I’m not even getting in to the internal politics of Pakistan that makes this tweet even more disappointing,” Abdullah said in a tweet.
The Congress, earlier on Saturday, had tweeted a photograph of the two holding hands during the Indian prime minister’s visit to Pakistan in December 2015 and said,“Nawaz Sharif has been arrested on corruption charges. We’d like to know what his dear friend, PM Modi, has to say about this.”
In 2015, PM Modi had landed in Lahore on the way from Afghanistan to greet Sharif on his birthday and attend the engagement ceremony of the Pakistan premier’s granddaughter. That was his first visit to the neighbouring country.
