Upon arriving in Jodhpur, Modi was welcomed at the airport by Rajasthan governor Haribhau Bagade, Union minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

The Prime Minister formally inaugurated the facility by unveiling the commemorative plaque through a remote-controlled mechanism and later inspected the newly built terminal building.

He also launched the modified UDAN scheme during the event, aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity across the country over the next decade.

The newly inaugurated terminal has been developed at a cost of 480 crore and covers more than 23,000 square metres. According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the facility has been designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers, or 2 million passengers, every year.

The terminal is equipped with modern passenger amenities and infrastructure intended to provide a smoother and more comfortable travel experience for flyers using the airport.

Modified UDAN scheme launched

Alongside the inauguration of the airport terminal, Modi launched the revised UDAN scheme, the Centre's flagship regional connectivity programme.

Under the modified scheme, a provision of approximately 28,840 crore has been earmarked over the next 10 years to further strengthen regional air connectivity and expand access to air travel in underserved and remote areas.

The government has said the initiative is intended to advance the vision of making air travel more accessible to ordinary citizens while improving connectivity across regions.
