PM Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse. It will be the world’s largest and modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's largest workspace, Surat Diamond Bourse today. He reached the site after carrying out a roadshow followed by the launch of a new terminal building of Surat Airport.

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday said the diamond trade which used to take place in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex has now shifted to Surat after the construction of the Surat Diamon Brouse.

"Those who are in power today do not have the power to think about the country. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the diamond business in Surat. Earlier, diamond trade used to take place in the Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai; now it has been shifted from here to Gujarat," Pawar said a day ahead of the launch of SDB.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Sanjeev Kumar said the overall capacity of Surat Airport will increase three times after the newly built terminal building becomes operational.

“The capacity of Surat airport will increase three times once this new terminal becomes operational. Prime Minister Modi ji has given this airport the status of an international airport, and the Union cabinet has approved it. Surat is one of the biggest business hubs globally, and this new terminal will connect people across the globe...Also, in the process, the Surat city will get further facelift,” Kumar said while speaking to ANI.

A replica of the Surat Diamond Bourse will be gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration ceremony. The replica is made of five key metals namely gold, silver, copper, iron and lead.

According to a government release, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new integrated terminal building at Surat Airport at 10:45 am. Following this, at around 11:15 AM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse.

Surpassing the Pentagon in the US, the Surat Diamond Bourse became the world's largest office building spread over a 7.1 million square feet landscape.

1. The building has a cutting-edge rooftop solar energy project. The power generated will be utilised throughout the year for common areas and radiant cooling systems.
2. It has a waterless robotic cleaning solution to conserve water and maximise energy generation.
3. The SDB complex will have spaces available for cutting, polishing and trading activities related to diamonds under one roof.
4. It has over 4,500 offices, 130 elevators and a passage area of over 22 kilometres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new terminal building of Surat Airport today. The Union Cabinet has recently approved the proposal to declare Surat Airport as an international airport. This will enable seamless export-import operations for the diamond as well as textile industries along with providing a gateway for international travelers.

1. Built at a cost of ₹353 crore, the new integrated terminal building of Surat Airport will be capable of managing 1,200 domestic and 600 international passengers hourly during peak hours, with a provision to increase the capacity to 3,000.
2. The new building is designed keeping the local culture and heritage in mind, and the airport has been given a heritage building look by taking inspiration from the old Kashta houses of Rander.
3. It is also equipped with sustainability features including a double-insulated roofing system, a low-heat gain double-glazing unit, canopies for energy saving, sewage treatment and water treatment plants among others. Read more

PM Narendra Modi will visit Surat to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse today. Ahead of his visit, PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the new complex will give a major boost to the diamond industry. “The ‘Customs Clearance House’, Jewellery Mall and facility of International Banking and Safe Vaults will be significant parts of the Bourse,” he wrote.
