A Chhattisgarh police sub-inspector was killed and a constable was injured in a gun battle with Maoists in Rajanandgaon district on Sunday evening.

The encounter took place at Bhave area under Gatapaar police station, when a police unit was on an anti-Maoist operation.
The Maoists fired at the unit’s members when they were cordoning off the forests near Bhave village, about 150 km from state capital Raipur, police said.
“Yugal Kishore Verma, the SI, was killed, while constable Krish Sahu sustained injuries,” said DM Awasthi, Chhattisgarh’s special director general (Naxal operations).
A 2008-batch SI, Verma was from Palari in Balodabazar district.
A major portion of Rajnandgaon is bordering Gondia and Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) and Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh) where maoist activities have been continuously reported.
As per the Maoist documents recovered recently from Bastar region, the rebels are now trying to set up their new base in this tri-junction region.
