Sexual harassment case: NLIU professor files plaint against five students
A group of 20 students met chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seeking a high-level inquiry against the professor, alleging that he would send inappropriate messages and videos to women students, and ask them to meet him at his residence
A professor of the National Law Institute and University (NLIU), who resigned after allegations of sexual harassment, filed a police complaint against five final-year students and accused them of threatening him.
On Friday, a group of 20 students met chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seeking a high-level inquiry against the professor (who is not being named by Hindustan Times till an inquiry is complete), alleging that he would send inappropriate messages and videos to women students, and ask them to meet him at his residence. The students claimed that the professor has harassed “countless” women students in the university over the last two decades.
Countering the allegations, the professor said he resigned under pressure after students harassed him and threatened him.
“After such grave accusations, I was shocked and resigned but later I realised that I shouldn’t have because I am not at wrong. I filed a complaint with police and also sent a letter withdrawing my resignation, he said.
Ratibad police station in-charge Sudesh Tiwari confirmed received the complaint.
“We have received a complaint and are inquiring into the matter,” Tiwari said.
