As PM Modi on Saturday flagged off the New Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express train, he said when he learnt that the date for the inauguration of the train was fixed on April 1, he was sure that 'friends' in Congress would call it PM Modi's April Fool. "But as you can all see the train has started on April 1 only. This is the symbol of our expertise and confidence," PM Modi said.

“The previous governments were so engrossed in appeasement of the vote bank that they never focussed on the ease of living of the people. They used to consider one family as the first family. What about the second and third families? They were left on their own. And the victim was the Indian Railways,” PM Modi said taking a dig at the Congress.

Condemning the plight of Indian railways before 2014, PM Modi said passengers even stopped complaining knowing that there would be no solution. In the last 9 years, Railway Budget has gone up and in this year's Budget, Madhya Pradesh got over 13,000 crore in contrast with 600 crore before 2014, PM Modi said.

“There are some people in our country who, after 2014, committed to malign PM Modi's image. They have said it publicly as well. For this, they have roped in different people. To help them, there are people both inside and outside the country. These people are relentlessly trying to hurt Modi's image. But today, every Indian is Modi's suraksha kavach. And for th,” PM Modi said.

The statement comes amid a massive political controversy over Rahul Gandhi's speech in London on the present situation of Indian democracy. The BJP demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi while he got convicted by a Surat court in a 2019 defamation case resulting in his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.
