Woman, 3 minor daughters found murdered in UP’s Etawah city
Girls were found dead and bloodied on a road near the building where they lived.
A woman and her three minor daughters were found murdered in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah city on Tuesday and appeared to have been strangled, police said.
People found two girls dead and bloodied on a road at around around 5.30 am, confirming they had been thrown off the fourth floor of the building where they lived in Kanshiram Colony in Civil Lines. A third girl was breathing faintly but died within 10 minutes after being taken to a hospital.
The mother was found dead in the unlocked house where wheat flour and utensils were scattered about, suggesting she resisted her attackers, police said. The Dalit woman’s husband, who is a painter, told police he hadn’t returned home after leaving for work on Monday.
Ashok Tripathi, senior superintendent of police for Etawah, said the husband was questioned and taken into custody.
Neighbours didn’t hear or notice anything unusual despite rooms in the building stacked closely. “Certain leads indicate that the women and kids were murdered to take revenge,” said a police investigator.
“More than one person can be involved in the murder. We are questioning suspects and working on the leads available,” Alok Singh, Inspector General of Police, Kanpur.
Police sources autopsy reports will establish if the women and girls were sexually assaulted.
