Woman shot dead in Dehradun by unknown assailants, police begin probe

The woman was identified as Samar Jahan from Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. She had come to the state capital around 20 days ago. She worked at a restaurant from where she was returning home when the incident happened.

A woman was shot dead by unidentified men near the IT Park on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun at about 10pm on Tuesday, police officials said.

The woman was identified as Samar Jahan from Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. She had come to the state capital around 20 days ago. She worked at a restaurant from where she was returning home when the incident happened. Before visiting Dehradun, the woman lived in Roorkee, the police said.

Nivedita Kukreti, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun said, “Unknown men, minimum one and maximum three, came in a car and fired five rounds at the woman when she was on her way back home from work. She was rushed to the Max Hospital by local police where she was declared brought dead.”

“What we have learnt so far is that the woman was in a live-in relationship with a man, who also hails from Muzzafarnagar. We are trying to find out more information about the deceased,” the senior police official added.

Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Shweta Choubey was also present at the spot with the SSP Dehradun for further investigation.
