Ajinkya Rahane continued his fine form as he slammed his third consecutive fifty but it went in vain as a great show from the Australian bowlers in the death overs guided the visitors to a 21-run win in the fourth ODI in Bangalore on Thursday. (India vs Australia Blog | Scores)

Rahane, who had slammed 55 and 70 in the Kolkata and Indore ODIs, looked in fine touch as he got off the mark in grand style by cracking a boundary off Pat Cummins in the first over. The right-hander slammed two more boundaries but the shot of his innings was a flat-batted clout off Nathan Coulter-Nile that sailed over deep extra cover for a six.

The 29-year-old notched up his fifty in the 16th over when he pushed Travis Head for a single to long-off. Rahane’s fifty continued his rich form at the top of the order where he has been performing on a consistent basis.

However, in pursuit of quick runs, Rahane danced down the track and miscued a slog to wide long on where Aaron Finch took the catch close to the boundary to fall for 53 off 66 balls.

Rahane has grabbed his opportunities with both hands in this series after Shikhar Dhawan was forced to miss the first three ODIs in order to be with his wife, who is unwell.

When the squad was announced for the fourth and fifth ODIs, Dhawan was not included, giving Rahane an extended run at the top of the order.
