Dhawan was trapped in front by Angelo Mathews in the first ODI in Dharamsala on Sunday for a duck. Playing cautiously, Dhawan reached his fifty off 47 deliveries in 52 minutes with captain Rohit Sharma on the other end.

Shikhar Dhawan was watchful in the beginning of the innings but then pressed the accelerator button after 10 overs were completed. Sri Lankan quick bowlers failed to leave an impact in Mohali and kept bowling short in view of getting some bounce from the wicket. (INDIA vs SRI LANKA 2nd ODI LIVE SCORES)

It seems Dhawan’s practice with tennis ball for hitting cross-bat shots during the net session in Mohali ahead of the match worked out well. After slugging out extensively in the nets on Tuesday, Dhawan extended the session and had a knocking session with the tennis balls.

The 32-year-old opener’s 50 included seven boundaries. In the Test series against Sri Lanka, Dhawan’s highest knock of 94 runs came in the Kolkata Test. It was at the Mohali ground Dhawan made his Test debut against Australia in 2013 and scored 187 runs. The opener, who has played 28 Tests and 94 ODIs, will be happy to have returned to form at the Mohali ground. In the company of Rohit, Dhawan looked in complete control against the Lankans. The duo stitched brought India’s 100 in 116 balls in 19.2 overs.
