10 bizzare resto names
No, it’s not fiction. As funny or incredible as it may sound, the restaurants featured on this page are all for realindia Updated: Aug 12, 2012 00:46 IST
Texas-based ‘breastauarant’ owner Doug Guller might be going gaga over the plummeting sales figures at his popular restaurant chain, Bikini, but would you eat at a restaurant that has the words d**k or f**k in its name? The answer is most likely a ‘No’. That’s probably the reason why even though the trend of restaurants with ‘dirty’ names or ones with sexual innuendos are common abroad, it’s not the same in India.
Restaurateurs say that it’s because Indians don’t connect with such names, instead they find it offensive.
Hitesh Kapoor, owner of Macaca, says, “Macaca means a kind of a monkey but if I named my resto Monkey, nobody would possibly even step in.” Vyom Ghai of Buzz restaurant feels that there’s a long way to go before Indians connect with such ‘raw humour’, so no entrepreneur wants to take the risk. “Indian customers prefer a name that has a direct connect with the food that is being served,” he says.
Shatrujit Saha, a 23-year-old IT professional and a foodie however feels that the name doesn’t matter."It’s all about the food and the service. If these two are in place, who cares about the name!" Saha’s sister Trina, a 27-year-old banker, though strongly detests the idea. "It’s obscene, and I would never even step into such a distasteful place!" she says. Well, even as the debate continues, we take a look at some of the most bizzare names of restaurants from across the world.
