The rescued refugees had been starved for over 10 days and were undergoing treatment at a government hospital here, they said. However, they are said to be out of danger and responding to treatment, the officials said.

The 11 were rescued around midnight on Wednesday by fishermen belonging to Uppada village near here after they lost their way on fleeing Mullaithivu in Sri Lanka on April 20.

A senior district official in East Godavari said the Sri Lankan embassy has been informed about the arrival of the refugees.

"We shall send them back to rehabilitation camp in Tamil Nadu as soon as they fully recover and the treatment is completed. They are still under medical care in a local hospital," a senior district official told PTI.

However, the condition of three women among the refugees was still critical, the official added.
