10 nomination papers rejected

NOMINATION PAPERS of 10 candidates were rejected after scrutiny on Monday. They included two aspirants for the post of mayor ? Bachchan Prasad Yadav and Manoj Kumar Singh. Their papers were rejected due to incomplete information and lack of necessary documents. Now, 11 candidates are in the fray for the post of mayor.

Now, 11 candidates are in the fray for the post of mayor. They include Kaushalendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kanhaiya Lal Gupta of the Samajwadi Party, Chandradeo Prasad Jaiswal of the Congress, Ashok Yadav of the Bharatiya Jan Shakti Party, Haridwar Singh Yadav of the Janata Dal-United, Munavar Ali of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Gulshan Kapoor of the Shiv Sena, Usha Singh Chauhan of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Brij Kishore of the Nationalist Congress Party, Madhu Kushwaha of the Apna Dal and Prahlad Jaiswal (Independent).

The final picture will emerge after the withdrawal of nomination papers on October 12.

Returning officer and ADM (Revenue) RP Singh supervised the scrutiny that continued till late on Monday evening.

The nomination papers of eight candidates for the post of corporators in Varanasi Nagar Nigam were rejected.

They included four candidates in Bhelupur zone, two each in the trans-Varuna zone and Dashashwamedh zones.

After scrutiny, 508 candidates remained in the fray for the posts of corporator in the Varanasi Nagar Nigam. No candidate for the Gangapur Nagar Panchayat and Ramnagar Palika Parishad election was disqualified.
