10-yr rigorous imprisonment to rapist

THE DISTRICT Court, Allahabad, has awarded 10-years? rigorous imprisonment in a case where the accused enticed away a minor and also raped her. Besides, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 13,000 and said in case of failure to deposit the fine, he would have to undergo further imprisonment.

On behalf of the prosecution, the public prosecutor Shyam Ji Tandon said it had been alleged one Suraj Prakash, enticed away a 15-year-old girl on March 25,1999 on the pretext of marrying her. Later, an FIR for the missing girl was lodged.

After five days, the girl was recovered and she made a statement before the court that she was enticed away by the accused person and was later raped by him.

Inquiry into nursing home
ADDITIONAL CHIEF Medical Officer Dr SC Gupta conducted an inquiry of a private nursing home in Katghar on Monday.

There were complaints of nursing home being unregistered and a few months ago a woman died at the hospital following a sterilisation operation. There allegations the nursing home was run by a PMS doctor who was previously posted at Handia. Dr Gupta checked the records of Neelu Singh who died following post-sterilisation complications five months ago. Singh was operated at Shankargarh CHC by a surgeon. But she developed complications after which she was referred to the Colvin Hospital. Instead of Colvin, she was taken to the Nazareth Hospital and later to the nursing home where she died. Dr Gupta said despite treating Singh died of serious medical condition post tubectomy.

However, the inquiry was part of a formality before giving a compensation of Rs 50,000 to her family members, he added. “The nursing home is run by Dr Kanchan Singh. He has also recently applied for registration,” Dr Gupta added.

Register case

SPECIAL CHIEF Judicial Magistrate Pradeep Singh has directed the Phulpur police station to register a case against Abdul Karim for assaulting an applicant.

Mausam Ali, resident of Phulpur, had moved an application alleging on January 29, there was a dispute regarding division of wood between the applicant and Abdul Karim. It is alleged Karim, along with his associates, started assaulting the applicant and his wife.

Meanwhile, the session judge has rejected the bail application of a person who was accused of throwing acid on Suman Devi on April 30.

In the aftermath of the acit attack, Suman Devi sustained serious injuries. When she got well, she said she had recognised the accused and lodged a report on May 1.

Opposing the bail application, public prosecutor KK Malviya said that there was a criminal history of the accused applicant. Earlier also, the cases of narcotics, attempt to murder, carrying illegal arms and liquor have been registered against him.
