100th Annual Dog show to be held in May

Over 500 dogs in 50 breeds will be on display at the three-day 'mega Dog show,' being held in Ooty from May nine. The dogs would be grouped into 7 categories -- Toy, Hound, Gundog, Terrier, Utility, Working Dog and Pastoral Group.

Over 500 dogs in 50 breeds will be on display at the three-day 'mega Dog show,' being held in Ooty from May nine.

This would be the 100th show to be organised by the South India Kennel Club, held during the summer tourist season, the club president, D Krishnamurthy, told reporters here.

The dogs would be grouped into seven categories -- Toy, Hound, Gundog, Terrier, Utility, Working Dog and Pastoral Group. The winning dogs from all groups would figure in the final line up and dogs from 1 to 8 positions would be given silver prizes, Krishnamurthy said.

Trophies donated by various luminaries like 'The Hindu,' the Maharajas of Mysore, Baria and Bhavnagar would be on display during the annual dog show, he said.

The events include South India Kennel club's Obedience test, German Shephered Dog club of India (coimbatore chapter) 12th Speciality show, The Indian Boxer clubs Boxer Speciality show, the Labrador Retriever club of India's Retriever specialy show and the Madras Canine club's All Breed shows, he said.

There would four judges from China, Thaiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.
