12 gangsters held, huge cache of weapons seized

Twelve members of a notorious gang, accused in murder, extortion, kidnap cases, were arrested and a huge cache of firearms were seized following an encounter with police at Maniarchak in Bihar's Munger district on Friday.

Twelve members of a notorious gang, accused in murder, extortion, kidnap cases, were arrested and a huge cache of firearms were seized following an encounter with police at Maniarchak in Bihar's Munger district on Friday.

SP M Sunil Naik said acting on a tip-off, police raided an orchard at Maniarchak where members of the Prakash Mandal gang assembled and engaged them in a brief encounter, Naik said.
Police apprehended 12 members of the gang, notorious in Munger, its adjoining Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts, the SP
said.

Three pistols, two muskets and three rifles, besides several rounds of ammunition were seized.

The arrested persons were identified as Narayan Yadav, Babulal Mandal, Raja Mandal, Santlal Mandal, Shankar Mandal,

Vasant Lal Mandal, Rajendra Mandal, Pankaj Kumar, Lakho Mandal, Ashok Kumar, Sadanand Mandal and Ranjit Kumar, all wanted in several criminal offences, including cases of loot, murder, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.

While police had arrested the gang leader Prakash from here yesterday, his 12 accomplices were netted following tip-off given by the gangster.
