13 lakh families without a house in Karnataka

Nearly 13 lakh families are houseless in Karnataka, the State Legislative Assembly was informed today.

Responding to Kadar U T (Congress) during question hour, Housing Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu said the number of houseless families in the State was 12,99,789. The highest number was in the northern district of Belgaum at 1,05,485 and the lowest in the hilly district of Kodagu at 5,543.

Naidu said funds to the tune of Rs 1056.07 crore, which includes the Central government's share of Rs 334.31 crore, have been earmarked for construction of three lakh houses, including backlog ones, under various schemes in the current financial year.
