THE NUMBER of seats available to the B Ed aspirants in the State has gone down by almost half this session with as many as 130 private B Ed Colleges failing to get recognition from the National Council for Teachers’ Education for the academic session 2006-07. These 130 colleges could not fulfill the norms of the NCTE within the scheduled timeframe.
There are about 27565 seats available with the 275 private B Ed Colleges in the State. But the fact that 130 of these could not get recognition, the seats are reduced to almost half.
The NCTE finalised the list of colleges that have been recognised for the session on Wednesday. NCTE Western Regional Committee chairman Vishnu Rajoriya told Hindustan Times that only 145 colleges could fulfill the norms of the NCTE till the scheduled date. Initial reports available with this newspaper suggested that only 52 colleges had failed to get the recognition for the session.
Rajoriya mentioned that the final recognition list has been sent out to the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT), and even if the other colleges manage to fulfill the norms in near future, they could not be given recognition for this particular session. He cautioned the students against seeking admission to the non-recognised colleges.
The admission process for the private B Ed colleges to be conducted for first time this year by the MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) also commenced on Wednesday. The prospectus cum rule book for the admission process released by the board gives a list of all the 275 private colleges in the State, suggesting that the candidates list out 10-15 colleges of the their choice while filling in the application forms. Now with almost half the colleges failing to get the recognition, the students would be in a dilemma.
The de-recognition of the colleges for this particular session also cut down the number of seats. There were a total of 27565 seats available with the 275 colleges. Now only about half of the seats would remain available. Also the fact that 25 per cent of the seats in all colleges have been reserved for students from outside the State would further reduce the opportunities for students.
