The 500-strong mob set ablaze police vehicles and indulged in stone pelting forcing the personnel to use force.

Trouble began at around 9 pm when some traffic policemen at the Badambadi bus terminus allegedly beat up a man following argument on collection of fine for violation of traffic rules.

Soon a large number of people gathered and started protesting and within no time the crowd gheraoed the nearby traffic tower.

As the handful police personnel at Madhupatna police station looked on helplessley, the rampage went on for an hour before police reinforcements were sent.

Commissioner of Police B K Sharma, Deputy CP A N Sinha went to the spot with a big contingent.
