The violence erupted after a child was beaten up by a group of children belonging to another community while playing a cricket match near Gurudwara road in Modinagar, SP (rural) MM Beg said.

People from both communities indulged in stone-pelting at each other injuring about 15 persons, Beg said.

About one dozen people have been rounded up in this connection, he added.

District Magistrate Hredesh Kumar and SSP Raghubir Lal rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Heavy police and para-military forces have been deployed in the area, Kumar said, adding the situation was under control.
