17-year-old girl raped on pretext of marriage in UP

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually exploited by a youth for a month on the pretext of marrying her, police said in Ballia on Sunday.

The accused took the girl to Ghazipur district where he sexually harassed her for a month, superintendent of police Manoj Kumar Jha said.

The SP said that when police mounted pressure on the accused’s family, he brought the victim back on Saturday and was arrested while he was trying to flee.

The accused was sent to jail on Sunday and the victim’s medical examination was being conducted, he added.
