Kumar pointed out that orders for the demolition of 1,407 illegal buildings had already been issued by the KDA.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Kumar said, “Orders have already been issued for the demolition of 1,407 illegal buildings in the city.”
He added that in addition to this, 1193 more illegal buildings had been identified by the KDA and the drive to demolish them would start within a fortnight.
Dispelling all apprehensions of the cessation of KDA’s anti-encroachment drive in view of the mounting opposition, Kumar clearly said, “ The anti-encroachment drive of the KDA will not stop under any circumstances.”
But he asserted that emphasis would be laid on demolishing illegal buildings, markets, shops and boundary walls.
Kumar emphatically stated that the KDA would not succumb to any pressure in demolishing illegal buildings.
Commenting on the contentious issue of regularisation of land, Kumar said the issue had already been forwarded to the State government on July 7 .
He pointed out that in 2004, regularisation of land was stopped by the development body and the issue was now in the hands of State government.
Presumably commenting on the controversy of demolition of houses in Gopal Nagar, the KDA VC stated that all land of Gram Samaj belonged to the development body and would be freed from encroachers at all costs.
The Vice Chairman informed that 573 hectares of Kanpur Development Authority land was in possession of illegal occupants and in the current year the KDA had freed 114 hectares of land from the possession of encroachers. The KDA Vice Chairman also asserted that FIRs would be lodged against the owners of illegal buildings.
