2 arrested for gangrape of engineering student

Two men were arrested for allegedly gang raping an engineering student and trying to record it on video in Jayadev Vihar area in Bhubaneswar, police said.

Two men were arrested for allegedly gang raping an engineering student and trying to record it on video in Jayadev Vihar area in Bhubaneswar, police said on Thursday.

The girl, a diploma student in garment engineering at an institute in Dhenkanal, accused the two, Swasti Sandeep and Sanjay Sahasia, of taking her from a shopping mall to a women's hostel run by them in Jayadev Vihar and raping her there last night, they said.

The girl alleged in her complaint lodged with the police that the duo had also tried to record the act on video, Deputy Commissioner of Police Himanshu Lal said.

The girl, who apparently knew Swasti Sandeep earlier, was in the city to spend a few days with her parents here, police said.

A case has been registered and the men were arrested after medical examination of both of them as well as the girl, police added.
