20 attacks in 30 months and rising

ON THE face of it, the murder of Pandhana legislaor Kishorilal Verma may seem to be an isolated incident but by Government’s own admission there have been 20 incidents of attack on the MLAs belonging to both the ruling and opposition parties or their receiving threat to life during the past two and half years of the BJP government.
The State Government had admitted in the State Assembly during the last session that there were 20 incidents of attack on MLAs reported to police and furnished the details of action taken on them.
The house was told that on March 7, 2004, Samanta Dal MLA from Pohri Harivallabh Shukla had lodged a complaint against two unidentified persons at Sirsaud police station in Shivpuri district, who had allegedly fired at him. The BJP MLA Tukojirao Pawar, who is now Minister of State for Higher Education, had lodged report against nine persons at Kotwali police station in Dewas on April 5, 2004, who allegedly had scuffled with him during election of district BJP president.
BJP MLA from Saunser in Chhindwara district Nanabhau Mahod was allegedly stopped and his car stoned by unidentified persons on April 28, 2004. Similarly, Shahpur MLA Dr C S Bhavedi lodged a complaint against three persons, naming all of them, for abusing and assaulting him. A challan in this regard was presented in the court on June 21, 2004. Dr Bhavedi also complained against a contractor Sandeep Malik on October 31, 2004.
MLA from Datia Ghanshyam Singh lodged a complaint against two persons at Khaniyadhana police station on May 11, 2004 for abusing him and threatening with life while the BJP MLA from Rajgarh district, Badrilal Yadav was allegedly attacked when in the Babulal Gaur ministry on December 14, 2004.
Janta Dal (United) MLA from Katni, Saroj Nayak Bachchan was allegedly abused by two persons on December 16, 2004. MLA from Dindori Dulichand Ureti was allegedly threatened by one Manohar Thakur and two others with life on February 14, 2005.
Samajwadi Party MLA Dr Sunilam lodged had lodged a complaint against one on February 14, 2005 for abusing and threatening to kill him. He was also allegedly abused and threatened by the CEO, Multai Janpad Panchayat V K Tripathi on March 7, 2005. The matter is pending with the State Government for prosecution sanction.
The BJP MLA from Satna Jugalkishore Bagri, who is now a minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan ministry was allegedly abused and assaulted by a clerk and his colleagues in M P Board of Secondary Education on March 1, 2005. A case was registered against the accused but later withdrawn after a compromise.
The BJP MLA from Sohagpur Chhotelal Saragavi was abused and threatened with life by unidentified persons on March 23, 2005. MLA Prasawada Darbu Singh Uike lodged a complaint against a railway TC Chhedilal on June 5, 2005 for allegedly threatening to kill him. Legislator Parasiya Tarachand Bavariya complained against five persons and eight to 10 employees of Janpad Panchayat Chhindwara for assaulting him on June 24, 2005.
Similarly, MLA Nainpur Devisingh Saiyam had lodged a complaint against one Chandra Shekhar Dhurve for allegedly obstructing official work and threatening to kill him. BSP MLA from Mauganj in Rewa IMP Verma was allegedly abused on December 29,2005 by nine unidentified persons in a train. Congress MLA from Indore Ashwin Joshi was allegedly assaulted by three persons in Indore on January 17, 2006.
The BJP MLA from Sagar Sudha Jain’s car was attacked and her gunman heckled by eight persons in Damoh district.
