At least 22 people were killed and several others injured in landslides triggered by overnight torrential rains along the Konkan coast in Mahrashtra, a senior official said.

Several more persons were killed while they were sleeping in one Jui village, which was cut off from the state, after a landslide, Resident Deputy Collector of Raigad, Sunil Jadhav said.
Rescue and relief operations were in full swing in Poladpur, Goregaon and Mangaon areas where 22 persons were killed in landslides, he said adding that the heavy downpour was making rescue operations difficult.
At the request of the district authorities, Navy pressed helicopters into service but the choppers could not reach the spot due to inclement weather.
However, rescue teams from nearby Mhasla rushed to Jui village through a creek in boats have reached the place, he said. Earlier reports said that up to 35 persons were feared killed in Jui, which is ten kms from Mangaon on Mumbai-Goa road.
Traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway has come to a standstill. Large portions of the track on Konkan Railway route were also flooded following which several trains were cancelled or detained at several places, Railway sources said.
