22 revelers challaned for drunken driving in Shimla

About 11 revellers were challaned for drunken driving during the new year celebrations here on Tuesday. Police had a tough time regulating traffic and maintaining peace and order on the New Year eve.

Police had a tough time regulating traffic and maintaining peace and order on the New Year eve.
Superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Dular said that as many as 11 drunken revellers had been arrested, most of them from the historic Ridge, which was the most crowded area.

Besides, 11 more persons were challaned for drunken driving on the circular road that was weighed down with heavy traffic, he said.

A rioting case was registered at the Sadar police station on Wednesday under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. In his complaint Deepak Chaudhary, a resident of New Delhi, alleged that around 11pm on Tuesday when he and his friends reached at old ISBT from Delhi, seven to eight persons assaulted them in which he and his friend Tripta Shukla got injured.

Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours, 132 vehicles were challaned by the local police under Motar Vehicle Act, 18 persons were challaned under Smoking Act. The total amount of compounding fee of challans is Rs 24,330.
