25 bodies recovered in Krishna boat mishap

The driver, in a bid to avoid hitting a two-wheeler, had veered to the edge of the bridge overlooking the imposing dam and lost control of the vehicle.

The bodies of 25 of the 27 people who had met with a watery grave when a tempo in which, they were travelling plunged into river Krishna downstream Alamatti dam in NH-13 on Tuesday, have so far been recovered.

Police said the search was on to recover the remaining bodies. In all 32 people, belonging to five families from Hosahalli and Behaddur Bandi village in Koppal district, were on a pilgrimage to Koodalasangama when the mishap occurred.

The driver, in a bid to avoid hitting a two-wheeler, had veered to the edge of the bridge overlooking the imposing dam and lost control of the vehicle, following which it plunged into the river. While five people, including the driver, swam to safety, the remaining drowned.
