IT WAS a day of pride for students, teachers and parents alike as Kanpur City became the only district in the State to boast of as many as 26 meritorious students out of the 45 on the merit list of UP Board Intermediate exam results declared on Sunday.

City lad Abhishek Bajpai of Pt Raghunath Prasad Mishra (RPM)Inter College secured second position throughout the State with 94.2 per cent marks.
It may be mentioned that Neha Shukla had made the district proud last year by sharing the top position on the merit list along with Pratik of Lucknow.
Besides Abhishek, nine other students of Pt Raghunath Prasad Mishra Inter College also figured on the merit list, leaving behind BNSD Shiksha Niketan, which had only seven students securing positions on the merit list. With this BNSD Shiksha Niketan also had the dubious distinction of the lowest number of students on the merit list in the last four years.

Abhishek missed the top position by merely two marks. His classmate Neha Agarwal also brought laurels to the institution by attaining the fourth position with 91.6 per cent. However, Neha stood second among girls throughout the State. She lost the first position in the girls’ list to Surkhab Bano of Lucknow, by three marks.

Similarly, Jaya Gupta, also from the same college, attained the seventh position with 90.6 per cent marks, while Ankit Shukla of the same college secured the eighth position with 90.4 per cent marks. Manish Singh from the college got 14th rank with 88.6 per cent marks, while three students, Arun Singh Chauhan, Chhatrapal Singh Tomar and Gaurav Maheswari shared the 21st rank with 87. 2 per cent marks. Principal Dr Abhayjeet Mishra claimed that the name of Chetan Gupta had been wrongly written as Chhatrapal Singh Tomar.
BNSD students secured eighth, ninth, 13th, 15th, 19th (2) and 20th rank in the merit list in the district.

However, given its reputation, the results were not satisfactory. Of the total 56 meritorious students last year, 32 were from BNSD Shiksha Niketan.

Besides, four students from City Model Inter College, Rawatpur , two students of Sardar Patel Inter College, Barra and one student each from Onkareshwar Saraswati Inter College, Saraswati Gyan Mandir Inter College and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Inter College in the district also figured on the merit list.
