TWENTY-EIGHT TEAMS for 28 notorious criminals! Such is the fear of DGP Bua Singh's directive that SSP Allahabad, Vijay Singh Meena has formed one team for each criminal to be either nabbed or eliminated in encounter.

This isn't all, the anxiety of May 19, 2006 dead line also looms large in the mind of all the district police chiefs in the State. For, if they fail to meet the dead line and also the desired result, the axe will fall this time directly on them instead of the station officers or any other junior colleague.
DGP Bua Singh has made it clear to all the district police chiefs that they should be ready for removal in case all the wanted crinminals carrying rewards on their heads were either not nabbed or eliminated in encounter before the above deadline.
Though difference in the number of above category criminals varies from district to district in the State, for the Allahabad SSP achieving the target appears to be a pipe dream, feel police insiders. This is because as many as nine of the hardened criminals from the list of 28 are not from this district. They have been coming from different parts of the State to commit crime here. With no permanent base of these criminals in this district it will be a near impossible task to track them down despite the fact that the police department will meet the expenses which the police teams will incur in the process of nabbing these criminals.
Nabbing the criminal from the above list will be the responsibility of the police station under which the crime had been committed by a particular criminal and the circle officer will be the leader of the team but in the event of failure in meeting the target the station officers and circle officers will not be held responsible.
It will be the failure of the SSP or the SP of the district. Under these circumstances it remains to be seen how much interest the station officers and circle officers take in discharge of their duties.
Sources said, the list earlier carried the names of 30 criminals but it was reduced to 28 following the recent encounter of two hardened criminals--Irfan hailing from Hatia was gunned down in police encounter on April 5 and Javed Khopdi, another dreaded criminal, fell to police bullets on April 17.
