“They were drunk and driving dangerously on MG Road. When tested, the alcohol reading was found above the permissible limit between 100.2 and 101mg,” said a traffic police officer.

One of them was arrested around 11.30pm, while the other two were caught around 1.30am. They were returning from parties when the arrest was made, the officer added.

In a drive against drunk driving launched by the traffic police, 133 motorists were challaned between Saturday night and Sunday morning from various locations, including toll plaza, Iffco Chowk, and MG Road.

“The offenders will have to appear before the city court. They can face imprisonment and cancellation of their driving licences along with hefty fines,” said Bharti Arora, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).

On Friday night, 106 people, including a woman, were booked for driving under the influence of liquor from the DLF area.

As per the traffic norms, the permissible alcohol limit is 30mg and if a person tests above 100mg, he or she can be arrested. The offenders can be fined Rs 2,000 or sentenced to six months in jail. If anyone repeats the offence, the person can face a fine of R3,000 or two years in jail or both.
