Three of the 12 persons, who had undergone cataract surgery during the special programme held on January 29 at the civil hospital at Gadarwara later developed infection and were being given treatment, they said.

The three, identified as Nepal Singh of Raheli village, Shanti Bai and Gulab Singh (both from village Kamtikheri), were referred to Jabalpur yesterday, sources said, adding reports from Jabalpur indicated the three patients were feared to have lost their eyesight.

Confirming the incident, district Collector Krishna Mohan Gautam said the matter was being probed and chief district medical and health officer Kusum Deharia has been asked to visit Gadarwara for the purpose and give a report.

A detailed report on the matter would be sent to the Health Department, he said.
