As per the police report in this regard, BJP candidate from the Jalandhar Central seat Manoranjan Kalia and his Congress rival Rajinder Beri have deposited their .32-bore revolvers with the police. Pargat Singh, SAD candidate from Jalandhar Cantonment and former hockey captain, has deposited his revolver at the division number 7 police station.

Congress rebel Dinesh Dhall, who is contesting as an Independent from Jalandhar North, and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Hans Raj Rana have also deposited.32-bore revolvers. Other who have done the needful are BJP candidate from Jalandhar North KD Bhandari, deputy mayor Parvesh Tangri, and SAD nominees from Adampur and Phillaur Pawan Kumar Tinu and Avinash Chander, respectively. Balwinder Singh, SHO, division number 4 police station, said SAD candidate from Kapurthala assembly constituency Sarabjit Singh Makkar, who resides in an area under the jurisdiction of this police station, owned a pistol but was yet to deposit it.

Navjot Singh Mahal, ADCP (headquarters), said of the total of 6,440 licensed arms within the jurisdiction of the police commissionerate, more than 5,000 had been deposited with the police. The rural police claims that 6,948 licensed arms out of 8,566 have been deposited, said SP (detective) Gurmeet Singh. Makkar, however, said he only had a licence for the revolver, but did not possess the weapon.

When asked about candidates’ preference for the .32-bore revolver, a police official said it was the cheapest and best revolver available in the market.
