Thirty-five people were killed and five others injured, when two buses collided head-on and caught fire in Nigeria during the weekend, police said.

The accident occurred late on Saturday at Kwarna-Jagga in Jigawa state.

A local bus, which was trying to overtake another vehicle, crashed into another bus carrying 25 people who were on their way to a wedding ceremony in Gombe state.

The two buses burst into flames and many of the victims were burned beyond recognition. Five other passengers were injured, most of them critically, police said.
