35 pc votes cast by noon in Manipur

Polling for the Inner Manipur (valley districts) Lok Sabha seat constituency began today amidst tight security. A total of 8.25 lakh electorate, 4.34 lakh of them being women would exercise their franchise during the day.

About 35 per cent of 8.02 lakh voters cast their votes by noon in prestigious Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency in the second phase Lok Sabha polls on Wednesday, election office said.

Sources said polling was continuing amid tight security in all 970 polling stations spread across four valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur.

About 40 per cent votes were cast by noon in Thoubal district from where Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh hails, 30 per cent in Bishenpur, 35 per cent in Imphal East and Imphal west district each.

The polling which began at 7 am will end at 4 pm, they said, adding that voters who enter the polling stations before 4 pm would be allowed to cast their votes even after the deadline.
