Claiming substantial increase in its tally of seats compared to 1999 Lok Sabha polls, Congress on Wednesday said that the third phase of polling indicated that the countdown for the exit of BJP-led NDA Government had begun and the ruling coalition was heading for a disintegration.

"We have received information through our party units and other sources talking about a substantial gain for the party, much more than what we had in 1999. This indicates that the reverse count for BJP-led coalition has started", Party spokesman Anand Sharma said.

Claiming that Congress and its allies would garner at least 34-to-38 Lok Sabha seats of the 83 constituencies which went to polls on Wednesday, he said NDA was "heading for a disintegration following its defeat in the polls".
