On Saturday, the Crime Branch officials claimed to have solved the highway robbery case. They arrested four people and recovered stolen cash and valuables worth Rs 20.8 lakh from them.

The four are Allaudin Khan (35), Deepak Saurasia (22), Ganesh Singh (25) and Nandu Chaurasia (24). Three others involved in the conspiracy are still at large, said Inspector Vinayak Vast.

Navin Bhanusali, a supplier of grain and pulses, was returning to Mumbai in his car after collecting Rs 37 lakh from
retailers.

At 8 pm, four people stopped him near Chas Shivarat and allegedly assaulted him. The four also allegedly hit his driver, Somnath Singh, with bamboo sticks and fled with Rs 30 lakh. A complaint was registered with the Ahmednagar taluka police station, which sought help from the Crime Branch.

During investigation, the Crime Branch officials allegedly learnt that the driver had given the tip-off about the money to Khan, a notorious robber from Bainganwadi in Govandi.

Earlier, Khan had been arrested in connection with petroleum adulteration cases.
