Dr Sunil Kumar Tyagi, a medical officer from Bijnor district, de-boarded a train at Ghaziabad railway station at 9.15pm.

He then boarded a shared eight-seater auto, in which three passengers were already sitting.

Soon, the three passengers took out guns, overpowered Tyagi, and snatched his briefcase containing R40,000 cash and his licenced revolver. The gang also tied the victim’s hands and roamed around for half an hour on GT Road.

“Later, they dumped him at an isolated spot at industrial area near Lohiya Nagar. The four men escaped after the incident and also inflicted injuries on the victim to scare him,” said SS Yadav, superintendent of police.

Police later intensified checking of autos at Mohan Nagar, Lal Kuan, Link-Road and Sahibabad border areas to track the culprits. Officials said that five such auto-gangs were recently nabbed during various checking operations.
