Addressing the girls on the occasion, he urged them to utilise the funds to continue with their education. He also said that the spirit behind the scheme was to promote women’s education in the State.
Earlier, it was decided that State Minister for Agriculture Jaiprakash Yadav would distribute the cheques. But as he was out of station for some urgent work, the district magistrate decided to distribute it.
Dr Hariom said that UP was the first State in the country to have introduced such scheme to upgrade women’s education. He laid stress on the need to maintain transparency in verification of income of the parents of the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, principal of the Government Jubilee Inter College Dr OP Rai said the women education was the backbone of any society and the progress of the society was measured by the progress of women.
District inspector of schools Ramagya Kumar, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the verification of 906 girls was completed and they would be provided with the cheques soon.
He said that 186 girls had been selected from Sadar Tehsil, 49 from Gola, 125 from Chauri Chaura, 17 from Sahjanwa and 172 from Khajani block.
Those who received the cheques said that they would used the money for to continue with their education.
Principal of AD Girls Inter College and Kusmaul Inter College principal Gorakhnath Srivastav also participated in the programme.
