A comprehensive health check-up programme launched at five prominent convent schools has presented a very grim picture of the general health of school children in Allahabad.
Of the total 6,000 students examined in the past one year, 30 per cent children were found anaemic while 48 per cent were suffering from one or the other health disorder. Shockingly, six children were found suffering from TB and their parents were not aware of the problem, he said.
This was disclosed by the Apollo Clinic chief executive officer Susheel Singh while addressing mediapersons on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Clinic here on Monday.
Singh said that more shocking was the fact that despite free consultancy barely two per cent parents came to collect their children's report and take further advice from specialist doctors.
"The programme data also revealed 11 per cent students were found suffering from ENT problems, nine per cent from respiratory problem, 26 per cent abdomen pain, 30 per cent headache, 22 per cent pain in legs, six per cent skin diseases and four per cent were suffering from complications related to cardio vascular system," he informed.
Singh said that more than 38 per cent children were also found suffering from dental problem. The eye complications among children was also as high as 21 per cent. During examination one child was about to faint in school as he had a hole in his heart and his parents were not aware of the fact. "In a way most of the students were suffering one or the other problem. In the light of these condition the school management and the Apollo Clinic has decided to conduct camps for parents also and make them aware of the different problems of their children," he said.
Singh said it was planned to conduct health examination of atleast 10,000 students in GHS, BHS, Mary Lucas, St Joseph's College and St John's Academy. In the first phase the examination of 6000 students was done, he said.
"Apart from these preventive health check-up programmes the Apollo Clinic has become leading name in the field of pathology, pharmacy and consultation by world renowned doctors. City's first phototherapy unit has been recently installed at the clinic for different skin diseases at minimum prices," he said.
