In an operation supervised by Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil, the Crime Branchon Friday seized nearly five lakh litres adulterated edible oil from a number of godowns at Kurla in central Mumbai.

A senior Mumbai Crime Branch official said that the culprits used to remove oil from the tins of reputed brands and adulterate it with ordinary palm oil or any other oil of cheaper variety.
Patil was present when police raided the godowns along with officials of the Food and Drugs Administration, sources said.
Although a number of persons have been detained in the operation, crime branch sources said that no one has been arrested yet.
