5 women to contest 5th phase of JK polls

Of the 179 contestants, there are five women in fray, in the three districts of Pulwama, Shopian and Kathua districts, which are going to polls in the fifth phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

Of the 179 contestants, there are five women in fray, in the three districts of Pulwama, Shopian and Kathua districts, which are going to polls in the fifth phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on December 13.

The 11 constituencies where polling will be held in the fifth phase of assembly elections are Tral, Pampore, Pulwama and Rajpora in Pulwama district, Wachi and Shopian in Shopian district and Bani, Basohli, Kathua, Billawar and Hiranagar in Kathua district, an official spokesman said.

Among the five women contestants, three will contest in Shopian district while two women are in fray from Kathua district. There is no woman contestant in Pulwama district.

While three women contested in the first phase, two were in fray for the second phase, he said, adding in the third phase, five women contested while as 10 are in fray for the fourth phase for which polling will be held on December 7.

The women contestants from Shopian district are Aisha Nishat of J-K Awami National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti of Peoples Democratic Party in Wachi constituency and Gulshan Parveen of Samta Party in Shopian constituency, he said.

Similarly in Kathua district, Kanta Andotra of Indian National Congress will contest from Basohli constituency and Rano Devi of BSP from Hiranagar assembly constituency, the spokesman said.
