Under fire from various quarters for `complacency' in sensational gang rape case, city police on Monday finally cracked the whip, suspending six cops, including Inspector of Shahibaug Station, for `delaying' registration of complaint and `misbehaving' with the 24-year-old victim, who later committed suicide.

"Preliminary inquiry revealed that these policemen had delayed registration of the complaint by the victim and misbehaved with the girl," Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) V V Rabari said.

Rabari said the policemen had not acted swiftly in taking the traumatic victim to the civil hospital for treatment.
