65 pc voting in Daman and Diu

Daman and Diu witnessed 60 to 65% voting, second only to Dadra and Nagar Haveli which recorded the highest voting with 65-70 per cent, Election Commission spokesman said.

Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli recorded the highest voting with around 65 to 70 per cent followed by Daman and Diu witnessed 60 to 65 per cent voting, Assam (60 pc), Bihar, Karnataka and Mizoram between 55 and 60 per cent each, EC spokesman A N Jha told reporters here.

In Andhra Pradesh, a crucial state where Lok Sabha and assembly elections are being held simultaneously, the first phase of polling recorded 55 per cent turnout, he said.

Jammu and Baramulla constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a turnout of around 45 per cent voters, while the lowest turnout of 40 to 45 per cent marked the polling in 24 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, Jha said.
