Policemen have been deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward incident. According to information, corporator Ghulam Sanjari’s family had differences with another family in the neighbourhood. Sanjari’s family members beat up Mukhtar of the rival family.
Mukhtar’s parents and supporters reached the corporator’s house to register their protest. Sanjari’s supporters attacked them with bombs and firearms and injured eight persons.
On getting the information, the police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. The injured, identified as Mehfooz Alam, Sarfaraz, Shahnawaz, Aquil, Faiyyaz, Maroof, Chedi and Nambi Bano, were admitted to the hospital.
Suspected ISI agent quizzed JOINT DIRECTOR commander of the Intelligence Directorate for the Indian Navy UK Bhardwaj interrogated the suspected ISI agent and a former navy officer Kunwar Singh Yadav in the district jail for several hours on Saturday.
After seeking permission of the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate, Bhardwaj visited the jail on Saturday evening and interrogated the agent. It was speculated that the official had vital information about the spy network for the defence sector.
It may be noted that the Varanasi district police had arrested the suspected agent from Rajatalab area on February 1 and recovered some objectionable secret documents from his possession. These documents included map of the 39th Gorkha Training Centre of the Indian Army in Varanasi and some documents of the Indian Navy.Kunwar Singh Yadav is a resident of Jaitpura area in Varanasi and a navy deserter.
Meanwhile, the district police forwarded an application for police remand of the arrested man in the court of the second additional chief judicial magistrate on Saturday. The court has fixed Monday for hearing the application.
