The truck carrying 13 people was going from Kolkata to Katwa in the district to deliver steel lockers when the accident occurred at Poshla bridge on Burdwan-Katwa road, police said.

After the over speeding mini truck overturned, the lockers fell on the men, who were mostly labourers, police said.

Eight persons were killed on the spot while three others were admitted to hospital. One person was released after first aid.

The driver of the mini truck was arrested.
