The opening session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly will standout on a single virtue, it was peaceful, unlike many others this year.
While state assemblies like Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh witnessed chaotic scenes on the opening day of the budget session, the legislature in Shimla set a good example after being conducted in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
Governor Prabha Rau's address for one-and-a-half hour went on uninterruptedly in the 68-member assembly.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, leader of the opposition Vidya Stokes and former chief minister Virbhadra Singh were present in the House. The session will conclude on February 27.
The Governor, in his customary address, highlighted the achievements of the BJP Government. The government adopted its election manifesto as a policy document and about 80 per cent of promises were fulfilled in a short span of one year, the governor said.
