With computer institutes at almost every nook and corner, how can you identify the right kind of computer institute?

Here are some points you must check out:

* Courses should be recognised and/or have proven industry acceptance.

* The stability of the institute i.e. the institute should have been in operation for at least five-six years

* An experienced and qualified, full-time core faculty pool suitable for teaching the courses offered

* Good infrastructure in terms of space, computer labs, lecture rooms and other facilities

* Good library facilities with reading rooms

* Availability of proper teaching aids

* Past performance

* Justifiable fee structure

* Should have proper admission, teaching, evaluation, feedback and monitoring procedures in place

How should a student go about verifying an institute's infrastructure and placement records?

One should make a personal visit and ask to be taken around for first hand verification. Don't hesitate in making inquiries about the placement record and try to verify the claims made. Also talk to students you come across.

Should one also get in touch with the companies that have hired the institute’s students?

Certainly. If possible one should try to find out from people in the academia/industry, who will give an unbiased opinion about the institute and course it offers. Moreover, the ranking /national level awards/commendation certificates received by the institute will all be good indicators of its strength.
