Later, the former RTI-activist-turned politician started door-to-door campaigning in Srinagar. Accompanied by party workers, Bhat filed his nomination paper in the office of divisional commissioner, Srinagar.

Bhat is contesting the election for the Srinagar constituency and has been challenged by National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah and people's Democratic Party member Tariq Hamid Kara.

"We started off in New Delhi to fight against the corrupt. We are not tolerant of corruption," said Bhat after filing his nomination in front of returning officer Farooq Ahmed Shah.

He lashed out at the NC for making a "joke of the feelings of the people by playing politics over autonomy": "They have kept autonomy on their mandate since 1996, and we have seen what they have done. "

Meanwhile, an Independent candidate, Rabia Altaf, filed her nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election from central Kashmir. Rabia, who runs the non-government organisation All India Centre for Urban and Rural Development (AICURD), said, "I am the first Kashmiri woman who is fighting elections as a commoner."

Fighting corruption, setting up of e-seva centres, and working for a Permanent resolution to the Kashmir issue are the issues that have been listed in her manifesto.
