The Oshiwara police arrested actor-director Joginder Singh (60) on Friday, for allegedly usurping property.

Singh, who has played a villain’s role in Bollywood films, was arrested on the complaint of his friend Jayesh Cheda after the latter alleged that Singh had forcibly taken over his ‘gala’ worth Rs 60 lakh in Laxmi Industrial Estate, Andheri.

Senior inspector of Oshiwara police station, Kiran Sonone said that Cheda had let Singh use his spare ground floor shop in September. This month Cheda was surprised on seeing that Singh had set up his own office there.

After Cheda lodged a complaint, Singh told the police that he had purchased the property from Cheda and also possessed a sale document, which the police sent for verification.

On Friday, after confirming the documents were forged, the police arrested Singh for cheating and trespassing.

“Joginder told the police that he had put up a new lock as the original one was lost,” said social worker Prakash Gidwani, a friend of Cheda.

Singh has been remanded in custody till October 30.
